Lucas Patrick Moran, known to most as Luke, was born on May 25, 1980, in Bakersfield, California. He passed away on December 10, 2025, at the age of 45, in Surprise, Arizona, a community he proudly called home.
Luke lived a life defined by service, courage, and unwavering devotion to others. For more than twenty years, he served as a Captain Paramedic with the Phoenix Fire Department, dedicating his career to protecting life and property with quiet strength and humility. He also served with the Buckeye and Mayer Fire Departments, answering the call wherever he was needed. Firefighting was more than a profession to Luke; it was a calling, one he embraced with pride, discipline, and deep respect for the brotherhood of the fire service.
In 2014, Luke’s extraordinary courage was formally recognized when he received the Distinguished Medal of Valor for heroic actions during a fire in the line of duty. Though honored for bravery, those who knew him best understood that heroism came naturally to him. He was the definition of a gentle giant; steadfast, compassionate, and calm in the face of adversity.
Luke was a devoted Christian whose faith guided his life and service. He found peace in the outdoors, especially while hiking and fishing, but his greatest joy was time spent with his children. He was a deeply loving father to Daniel, Tyler (Sidney), and Faith, and his love for them was evident in everything he did.
Luke is survived by his parents, Jim and Kris Moran; his siblings, Duggan (Courtney) Moran and Josie (Mark) Flancbaum; his children, Daniel, Tyler, and Faith Moran; as well as many cherished nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins, and extended family members who loved him deeply. Family meant everything to Luke, and his steady presence, quiet humor, and unwavering support will be profoundly missed by all who were blessed to know him.
Luke’s legacy lives on in the lives he saved, the colleagues he inspired, the faith he lived by, and the family he cherished. He will be remembered not only for his bravery, but for his kindness, humility, and unwavering love.
The funeral service will take place at Scottsdale Bible Church, located at 7601 E Shea Blvd, Scottsdale, AZ 85260, on December 18, 2025, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Graveside services will begin at 2:00pm at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery.
