Mack William Surrell passed from this life on January 10, 2021 from complications of the Corona virus. Mack was born December 20, 1934 to Alexander Franklin and Laura Ellen (Carmickle) Surrell in Jay, Oklahoma. In 1941, the family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mack graduated from Tulsa Daniel Webster High School and joined the Army where he served in Korea as a postal clerk and radio operator. After returning home, he married his 'Honey' Lola Thornton whom he had known since they were childern. November 20, 2020 they celebrated their 61st anniversary. They were always together even working in the garmet industry together for many years. After they moved to Winslow, Arizona in 1972 they were employed by BVD underwear factory until it closed and Mack went to work for Duke City Lumber Company. In 1985 Mack went to work for Arizona Public Service Company and worked at Cholla Power Plant and later at the Palo Verde Nuclear Power Plant. He retired in 2000. Mack was known as an intelligent, good and Godly man. All who knew him can attest to his kindness and gentle nature and he has been a beautiful example to many. Now we cry but someday we will smile as we speak of him and remember this extraordinary man.
Mack is preceded in death by his parents, brothers George and Jack Surrell and sister, C. Catherine Thrornton.
He is survived by his wife, Lola Surrell; Son; Len Surrell (Carol); daughters, Cynthia Lavetta Penrod (Mike), Angela Surrell, Tessa Horner (Jack); sister, Pearl Surrell of Tulsa, OK. Mack was blessed with seven grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren.
Burial arrangements are by Advantage Funeral Service- Maryvale, AZ. Place of rest is Phoenix Memorial Cemetery in Veterans Honor Garden. A celebration of his life and legacy will be held when it is safer for all.
