She was born on Valentine's Day, 1942, in Ealing, London, UK, during World War II to Donne and Betty Puckle. Meg spent her school years in California, Utah, and Arizona, graduating from West High School in Phoenix in 1959 and receiving her AA from Phoenix College, right around the corner from her house.
In 1964, she secretly eloped with her high school sweetheart, Norman Woodall. Some 6 months later, they left notes for their parents and moved away to Prescott where Norman had a job. When the dust all settled, they enjoyed a wonderful shared life together, leading Boy Scouts and sharing a deep interest in Norman's Native American heritage. She lost him to cancer in 1984.
Meg went on to have two long and meaningful careers of which she was extremely proud: first as a library assistant with the Phoenix Public Library system for 20.5 years, and later as a security guard with Allied Barton for 20 years. She officially retired in 2017, at age 75. In between, she also spent a year as a novice with the Sisterhood of the Holy Nativity in Fond du Lac, WI--a spiritual chapter she held close to her heart.
A voracious reader and lifelong learner, she also pursued a variety of crafts, including beading, quilting, crocheting and loom knitting, and linoleum block carving and printing. The things that gave her the most joy in life were bears of all kinds, brussel sprouts and beets, hugs, compliments, coffee, her library of books and making hats for veterans.
She made friends everywhere she went--and rarely, if ever, an enemy. She truly saw the community around her as her neighbors and friends and strove to maintain relationships with friends, her mail man, her pharmacist, anyone and everyone. She was absolutely one of a kind and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She joins her husband Norman, her parents, Betty and Donne, her mother and father-in-law Virginia and Thomas, and her brother-in-law, Lindsey, and several dear friends.
She is survived by her siblings, Fr. Donne E. Puckle of Beaverton, OR, and Jean P. Davidson of Peoria, AZ; six niblings: Melissa K. Carlson (Chris) of Goodyear, AZ; Jennifer L. Guenthner (Jeff) of Petaluma, CA; Donne E. C. Puckle (Maria Davis) of Littleton, CO; Tom Woodall; Liz Henry (Dan) of Beaverton, OR; and Tanya Woodall. She also leaves behind great-niblings: Kirsten Davidson of CA; Toby Guenthner of Oxnard, CA; Adrian Carlson of Tucson, AZ and Jack and Raymond Henry of Beaverton, OR—and many beloved friends.
Memorial services will be held at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church on Friday, May 2, 2025 at 10 AM. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Greenwood Memory Lawn.
