

88, died May 11, 2016 in Mesa. She was born July 21, 1927 to Earl Thomas and Anna Margaret Jensma Clark of Coolidge, Arizona. She attended Coolidge High School and Arizona State College. While a student at ASC, she met and married Dean Smith of Glendale. They made their home together in Tempe and Scottsdale and had four children: Kathy, Karen, Clark and Kelly. Betty loved to cook, played the piano and had a strong Christian faith. She graduated from ASU and worked as a school librarian. She was a beautiful, brilliant, vibrant woman who had many lifelong loyal friends. Betty is survived by her children Kathy Franklin of Gilbert, Karen Behee (Ron) of Tempe, Clark Smith (Kathy) of San Diego, and Kelly Brydle (Rich) of Chandler. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren: David Franklin, Darren Dix, Kristin Hanson, Megan Elston, Jessica Flemming, Maggie Hundley, Claire Smith, Natalie Smith, Steven Brydle and Cara Brydle, and 8 great-grandchildren. Also sisters-in-law Phillis Goheen of Mesa, and Jean Smith of Phoenix, nephew Earl Thomas Clark III and niece Anne Clark. Betty was predeceased by her parents, brother Earl Thomas Clark II and nephew Christopher Clark. A celebration of life service will be held at Mesa Good Shepherd, 5848 E. University Dr., Mesa, AZ 85205 on Sunday, May 22 at 1 pm. Betty will be laid to rest next to her father, Earl Thomas Clark I, at Greenwood Memory Lawn in Phoenix.
