

November 23, 2024, in Phoenix, Arizona, at the age of 88. Marilyn was born in Cleveland, Ohio,
and moved to Phoenix, Arizona, in 1970, where she spent much of her life dedicated to
nurturing the minds and hearts of those around her.
A devoted educator, Marilyn taught at Bourgade Catholic High School for many years, where
she made a profound impact on her students and colleagues alike. Her passion for teaching
went beyond the classroom, as she strived to shape her students into thoughtful,
compassionate individuals. Marilyn’s commitment to education touched the lives of countless
students, leaving a lasting legacy in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her.
In addition to her teaching career, Marilyn was a passionate member of her church choir, where
she found joy in using her voice to lift others. Her faith was a guiding force in her life, and she
often spoke of the strength she drew from her community and her love for music.
Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Anita Lugar (Jim); foster son, Tracy Rucker (Jean);
grandson, Edward Johnson; and her brother, Lew Halter (Janie). She will be greatly missed by
her family and many friends who cherished her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support.
A memorial service to celebrate Marilyn’s life will be held at Shepard of the Valley United
Methodist Church, on January 11, 2025, at 10:00 am.
Marilyn’s dedication to teaching and her love for her family and faith made her a cherished
presence in the lives of those she touched. She leaves a legacy of compassion, generosity, and
the knowledge that she made a difference in the world.
