Mark William Jarvis of Phoenix died April 30, 2023. He is survived by his children, Becky (Lenella) and Melissa Jarvis; his brothers, Don Jarvis (Janelle) and Ken Jarvis (Rosie); and his grandchildren, Michael Jarvis (Samantha) and Michelle Jarvis, and great-grandchildren, Catherine and Liam Jarvis.
Mark was born in 1937 in Ithaca, New York, to Revo (Cram) and Karl Jarvis. He grew up in Iowa and graduated valedictorian from high school there, then served a mission to the southern states and earned a BS in mathematics from Brigham Young University. He continued his studies in mathematics and early computer sciences at Arizona State. After meeting in a chemistry class at BYU (she claimed she needed “tutoring”), he married Sally Esler, Dec. 29, 1959.
Mark had a long career as a computer systems analyst at Motorola and Honeywell. He was proud of his sign at work, “An incorrigible punster lives here. Please do not incorrige.” In addition, he taught computer courses for decades at Phoenix College. He served in many organizations in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the longest as ward clerk. He loved puns, reading, cats, and helping others. Near the end of his life, he looked forward to being reunited with his wife and son, Brian.
Arrangements by A.L. Moore-Grimshaw Mortuary; funeral 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 3, at the LDS Chapel; 8710 N 3rd Ave; Phoenix.
