On January 21st our beloved wife and mother passed into the loving arms of God after a heroic and extended battle with Covid-19. She was surrounded by her loving family who were able to share her final days at home under hospice care.
Marlene was born on August 9th 1938 to Forrest and Hilda Mohrman in Wellington Ohio. She grew up in Wellington where she graduated from High School in 1956. She then entered the Akron University School of Nursing in Akron Ohio, and later graduated for Methodist School of Nursing in Indianapolis IN. In November 1958 she met her future husband Vernon and they were married on September 19th 1959. In their 61 years of marriage 4 sons were born, Robert 1961, Vernon Jr. 1964, Todd 1969 and Sean 1971. They also were blessed to have 5 wonderful grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
After her marriage, she began a life of world travel and overseas living that gave her all her sons a unique perspective on a variety of cultural experiences. She understood how important it was that her children, by experiencing other cultures and ways of life, would eliminate all pride and prejudice in their future life journeys.
Marlene had a total commitment in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ that was demonstrated throughout her life in service to her church and to so many Christian and charitable organizations throughout the world. While living in Japan she worked closely with both Christian and Buddhist charities while teaching English in the Japanese high school system. Until the time of her passing she continued to have contact with many of her students and associates through correspondence and personal visits.
Marlene was such a loving and caring mother, wife, and friend a biblical comparison of her life can truly be made to the Old Testament heroine Esther. Esther’s life is a perfect description of our wife and mother. She was “beautiful and talented, a deep thinker and a bit of an introvert. People often made assumptions or underestimated her because of her physical appearance, not realizing that behind that beautiful face is a ferociously intelligent mind and a passion for justice. Although she preferred to stay out of the spotlight, nothing could stop her from standing up for the things she believed in." This was truly Marlene!
While no amount of words by length or description can describe Marlene’s 82 years of life on this earth, we her family receive great comfort in her eternal security with God as written in the gospel of John 10:27-28. It reads “My sheep hear my voice and I know them, and they follow me, and I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish and no one shall snatch them out of my hand.”
We her husband and sons thank God every day that he gave her to us as a wife and mother and are now joyous that God has reclaimed her to join his eternal family.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor can be made to North Eaton Christian Church 35895 Royalton Road, Grafton OH 44044.
