

Martha Elizabeth Johnson (Harshman), 78, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away Thursday, September 3, 2015, in Phoenix, Arizona. Martha was the daughter of Jemima Lounett (Swartz) Harshman and Elwood Raymond Harshman who married December 24, 1931. Martha was born in Petroleum, Illinois on October 20, 1936.
As a young woman, she worked in the beauty industry. She was a beautician who later owned her own shop in Indianapolis, Indiana. Martha resided in Tampa, Florida with her husband Edgar Fred Johnson, after they retired, until his passing in August of 2004. She moved back to Phoenix in 2006. She was an avid reader who always carried several books with her where ever she went. She loved to crochet and worked on several projects for her family at a time. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and friends. She looked forward to spending Thanksgiving and Christmas with her sons, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Martha was an exceptionally family oriented woman, often putting their needs before her own.
Preceded her in death: Jemima Lounett (Swartz) Harshman (mother), Elwood Raymond Harshman (father), Edgar Fred Johnson (husband), and Floyd Harshaman (brother) of Marshall, Illinois.
Survived by: Irene Kelly (sister) of Hartford, Indiana, Juanita Ross (sister) of Raleigh, North Carolina, Thomas Harshman (brother) of Winamac, Indiana, Kenny Harshman (brother) of Lisle, Illinois, James Harshman of Bluffton, Indiana, Royal Leeds Johnson (son) of Phoenix, Arizona, Edgar “Fred” Jr. and Bonnie Johnson (son). Martha had eight grandchildren: Ashley Johnson, Daniel Durbin, Garett Okeif, Morgan Richards, Jeremy Johnson, Royal Johnson Jr., Courtney Yeager, and Dylan Johnson. She also had seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Martha will be greatly missed.
