Mary was born December 28, 1931, in St. Paul, Minnesota to Edna Carroll and Leo R. Laughlin. She was proceeded in death by her parents and all three of her dear siblings: Phyllis (Fred) Benjamin, Donald (Donna Jean) Laughlin, and Kenneth (Phyllis) Laughlin. Mary is survived by 3 step daughters: Lynn Englund, Gayle (Lars) Strom, and Karen (Dick) Steinle as well as 15 nieces and nephews and 3 generations of great nieces and nephews. One the day before Mary left this world, her first great great great niece, Isabell Mae Liccardo, was born.
Mary was a baptized and confirmed member of the Roman Catholic Church. She attended St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church regularly. She loved her faith. As her health failed, she could no longer attend mass so she watched televised mass almost daily.
Mary graduated from St. Agnes High School in St. Paul and worked at the Catholic Digest on Snelling Avenue, where she made some lifelong friends. For many years, she and her former husband, Ray E. Doyle, raised champion show poodles and cocker spaniels.
In 1979, Mary and Wilfred C. (Will) Englund were married in Las Vegas. After retirement, they lived during the summers in Minnesota and spent much of their time in Phoenix. They enjoyed being with their extended families and traveled frequently, to Alaska, the Caribbean, Mexico and the Panama Canal. In 1997, they celebrated a family reunion on the Big Island of Hawaii. Family reunions were a highlight of Mary’s life. She had grown up with 35 first cousins, 50 second cousins and many aunts and uncles and the family frequently got together in Laughlin, Nevada. Will died in 2013 and Mary’s health gradually failed. She was cared for by her beloved niece, Kelli Benjamin Krogseng, and other family members who remember her as someone always engaging and easy to love, a welcome presence at all family gatherings.
Arrangements under the direction of Shadow Mountain Mortuary, Phoenix, AZ.
