Mary Sallas Ladas

Mary Sallas Ladas was born in Kansas City, MO on Sept. 6, 1914, to John and Efthemea Sallas. She married Paul C. Ladas on October 27, 1941, in Phoenix, AZ where they resided. While Paul was serving in the Army during World War II, Mary returned to Kansas City, where she worked as a supervisor at a radar factory and a material cutter at a coat factory. After the War, Paul and Mary returned to Phoenix where they were members of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Mary was a Philoptochos Society member, and she volunteered her services by being a Sunday school teacher, assisting in the Cathedral's office, and preparing for the Greek Festivals. As a lifetime member of the Wardrobe Union, IATSE #875, Mary dressed many famous performers in plays, operas, and productions. She also sewed costumes at ABC Theatricals and worked in retail for 15 years at Diamonds Department Store. In 1999, Mary and Paul moved to Arnold, MD to live with their daughter and son-in-law. While there, Mary enjoyed the Arnold Senior Center by making many friends, taking classes, and volunteering. In 2012, she returned to Mesa to live near her son and daughter-in-law. She loved visiting with family and friends, as well as cooking Greek meals, reading, sewing, and dancing. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul. Surviving are her children, Dr. John P. Ladas (Jill), Clements W. Ladas (Carrol), and Evelyn Panos (Michael). Her grandchildren are William Ladas, Carl Ladas, Joseph Ladas, Paul Ladas, Michelle Ladas, Kristina Lobb, Andrea Sewitsky, and Stephen Panos. She dearly loved her 11 great grandchildren.Visitation 6-8 PM on Thurs., Jan. 31, at A.L. Moore-Grimshaw Mortuary Bethany Chapel and funeral service on Fri., Feb. 1, at 10:00 AM at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
