Maxine Brogdon Rodgers, age 94, of Phoenix, Arizona passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 20, 2021. She was an Arizona native raised in Cashion. She grew up on a farm where her and her family picked cotton. Growing up in the depression years was hard for her family, but they made do of what they had. Her and her siblings had to complete their homework by an oil burning lantern. Maxine graduated from Phoenix Union High School in 1944. From there she went to work at American Farmers Insurance. It was there her boss Francell introduced her to her brother George and the rest was history. They remained married just short of 65 years.
Maxine was a homemaker all of her life and a great one at that. She loved her husband and children very much and took care of all of them. Everyone else came before herself. Maxine was a strong and athletic woman. She held the title for the first sailfish caught in 1977 in Cholla Bay Mexico. Her and George were very active in the Cholla Bay Sportsman's Club. For years they were out on their boat, the 'OSO', out fishing everyone. Maxine loved camping up at Big Lake, Wheatsfield Lake, Ashurst Lake and Tonto Lake.
In the 70''s she was in several bowling leagues, after that she started golfing. She was a natural. She became a member of the women's golf leagues at Papago, Cave Creek, and El Caro. It wasn't long until she had a hole-in-one under her belt. She always managed to have a five course meal on the table even after a long day on the course. Maxine was known to most as Mackey, Mackey Baby, Aunt Mackey, and most importantly Dollbaby by her husband. She was proud of those names.
She loved children. Not a day went by that she wasn't playing peek-a-boo with one. She would even play hide and seek at the grocery store with kids she didn't even know. The parents of the kids would be in awe because you don't see that very often. Her and George loved spending time at their cabin in Mormon Lake. For years they would go woodcutting. George would cut and Maxine would load the wood in the trailer. They would get enough to keep the cabin stocked for the season. They shared their cabin with many and were honored to do so. Maxine led a full life. She was proud and grateful of everything she had and was able to do. She cherished all of the family gatherings, she always made her famous fried chicken that we already miss. Maxine was a caring, nurturing, funny, witty, supportive and most of all a great soul. She was a loving daughter, daughter-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, wife, mother, mother-in-law, aunt, great aunt, cousin and friend.
She was predeceased by her parents, Basil and Ottalee Brogdon, sisters Addie and Bernice, brother Sonny, husband, George; son, Michael; daughter, Patricia. She is survived by her daughter, Jo Ann (Bob); grandchildren, Michael, David (Roni), Earl Patrick (Sarah), and great grandchildren, Brooklinn, Davin, McKinley, Joie, Jace, EJ and Jet; Brogdon nieces, Zoe Ann Ravert (Jerry), Zona Lee Finney (Robert), Zina Rae Smith (Ron), Cindy Kohanek, Pamela Woodall and nephew Richard Brogdon.
