

Maxine was born on June 24, 1939, in Phoenix, Arizona, to Charlie and Mamie Hayes. She attended Fowler Grade School and graduated from Tolleson High School. She continued her education at Phoenix College, Arizona State Teachers College (now Northern Arizona University), and Arizona State University.
In 1960, Maxine married the love of her life, Harold Shipley. Together they built a wonderful life and raised two children, Susan and David. They later founded L & M Building Materials, Inc., a masonry building supply company in Glendale, Arizona. Maxine and Harold owned and operated the business for nearly 25 years before selling it and retiring in 1999.
Maxine was a member of Northwest Church of Christ Church in Phoenix, Arizona. She and Harold shared 44 loving years of marriage until his passing in 2004.
Maxine will be remembered for her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering devotion to her family. She was a cherished daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Mamie; her husband, Harold; and her sisters, JoAnn and Clara Dean.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Zobott; her son, David (Susan) Shipley; her grandchildren, Victoria (Dylan) Hampel, Samantha (John) Spooner, Isaiah Shipley, and Elisabeth Shipley; and her great-grandson and namesake, Maxwell ("Max") Spooner.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Northwest Church of Christ, 5110 W. Union Hills Dr., Glendale, AZ 85308.
A light lunch will be served following the service. Side dishes and desserts are welcome.
