

Mercedes V. Acosta (Mercy) 94, of Phoenix AZ was born September 24, 1919 in Winkleman, AZ to the late Mr. & Mrs. Ygnacio Valenzuela and Elena Soqui. She was blessed to witness 5 generations prior to the Lord calling her home February 3rd, 2014 to be with her loved ones in Heaven. She was preceded in death by her husband Jose P. Acosta, her 5 siblings Vickie, Eduardo, Guadalupe, Reyes, and Helen, 3 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and 1 great great grandchild. Survivors include her children Luis V. Acosta, Joe V. Acosta, Jenney Verdugo (Raymond) , Rita Munoz (Lonnie), 20 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren and 23 plus great great grandchildren, cousins, nephews and nieces as well as her personal care giver and friend Emma. Mercy retired from Banner Good Samaritan Hospital in the late 1970's, her past time was enjoyed by crocheting, knitting, silver screen classic movies "Shirley Temple" was her favorite child star, she loved family traditions and gatherings, a variety of music and mariachis, dancing, road trips, outdoor yard games, word puzzles, AZ sport teams and doodled cartoon characters, an avid reader of the Bible and a variety of short novelas, shared personal life stories of triumph and tribulation, she had a great sense of humor, had a language of her own, she enjoyed visits from family and friends. She will be missed by all that loved her. Services and visitation will be held from 10:00am to 1:00pm Friday, February 14th, 2014 at Funeraria Del Angel Greer Wilson Chapel 5921 W. Thomas Rd. Phoenix, AZ 85033. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Avondale, Az. Celebration of Life gathering at 5982 W. Coolidge St. Phoenix, AZ. 85033.
