Michael was born in East Chicago, Indiana, in 1934. He met the love of his life, Eileen, while they were students at Bishop Noll High School. The two married in 1956 and shared 70 wonderful years together.
Michael earned his degree in dentistry from Loyola University Chicago and went on to complete his specialty training in orthodontics at Marquette University. Following graduation, he proudly served in the United States Navy.
Michael and Eileen were blessed with seven children: Beth (deceased), Michael, Mary Ellen, Nancy, Katie, Amy, and Anthony (deceased at birth). In 1965, they moved their family to Phoenix, Arizona, where Michael established an orthodontic practice that served the community for more than 40 years, where he was affectionately known to many as “Doc.” Throughout his distinguished career, he cared for countless patients, served on the boards of local orthodontic associations, and generously shared his knowledge and experience by mentoring generations of dentists and orthodontists.
Faith and community were always important parts of Michael and Eileen’s lives. They were longtime parishioners of St. Francis Xavier Church and devoted much of their time to serving the Church, the School, and Xavier College Preparatory in many capacities over the years. Michael especially loved coaching baseball and softball for the St. Francis summer league, creating memories that extended well beyond the playing field.
Outside of his professional and family life, Michael had a love for adventure and the outdoors. He was a licensed pilot and an avid skier. He and Eileen were also longtime members of the Phoenix Country Club, where Michael could often be found enjoying a round of golf or spending time with friends in the Men’s Grill. The Club became a second home, and he treasured the many friendships and memories made there over the years.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Eileen; his five surviving children; his three sons-in-law; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two brothers; and two sisters. He will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his profession, his faith, and the many lives he touched throughout his life.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Michael’s memory may make a donation to Xavier College Preparatory in support of the Beth Churosh Scholarship.
Funeral services will be private. A celebration of Michael’s life will be held on November 24 at 12:30 p.m. at Phoenix Country Club. Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate and remember a life well lived.
