Michael F. Corrigan took his final breath, January 26, 2013. He was born on April 29, 1920, in Oak Park, Illinois, to Frank and Josephine Corrigan. He attended Quigley and Mundelein Seminaries in the Chicago area, then joined the Army Air Corps and received his wings in 1943. He humbly spoke of the duties to which he was assigned that included flying dignitaries around Europe and South America. He proudly, but silently, wore the “Great Generation” moniker. After service, he worked for Household Finance until his retirement in 1979. He and his late wife, Marion, were childhood sweethearts in Berwyn, IL and were married for 66 years. Many glorious, sunny days were enjoyed during this extended retirement, and allowed him the opportunity to play golf which was a challenge that Mike enjoyed with many friends on the links.
He is survived by daughters, Maureen (and Robert) Oeding of Newport Beach, CA, Suzanne (and Stephen) VandePutte of Tempe, AZ and son, Michael (and Linda) Corrigan of Newport Beach, CA; grandchildren, Jeff (and Emory) Oeding of Portland, OR, Chris (and Eden) Oeding of Newport Beach, CA, Michael Corrigan of Dublin, CA and Lisa Corrigan of Salt Lake City, UT; and great-grandchildren, Samson, Oscar and Lucas Oeding of Portland, OR and August of Newport Beach, CA. He is also survived by his brother, Edward, of Sanibel, FL. and many nieces and nephews.
He was a quiet and kind man, valued lifelong learning and always had the encyclopedias nearby for reference. He will be missed and will live on in our lives.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 3550 E. Knox Road, Phoenix, Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. Arrangements entrusted to Carr-Tenney Mortuary, Tempe. Condolences and Memories may be shared with the family at www.carrtenneymortuary.com.
