

Nathaniel C. Harvey, age 94, was born November 23, 1923 in Tennessee, to Charles A. Harvey & Willie Lee Willis. Nathaniel, known by his friends as “Nate”, passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2018 in Phoenix, Arizona. Nathaniel graduated from Vashon High School and attended St. Louis University night school where he earned an Associate’s Degree in Commerce & Finance in 1951. Nathaniel worked in the Office of Auditors for the State of Colorado for 20 years. He also worked for the United States Postal Service and later as the Director of Auditors for the Western Region for 22 years. Nathaniel also served in the United States Marine Corps during WWII.
Nate loved to golf and ski and frequently skied in Aspen, Colorado. He also loved to sing and he learned to play the piano. Nate was an entrepreneur and business owner of Mid-Western Travel Service in St. Louis, MO in 1950. Additionally, Nate opened two Tax Service Offices in Colorado and had a strong passion for education. Nathaniel was one of thirty-three candidates out of one hundred eighty-five who successfully passed the Certified Public Accountancy Exam on February 3, 1962. This stringent exam was two and a half days long and consisted of four parts: Accounting, Theory, Commercial, Law and Auditing. Upon completion, Nate became the second black man, in Colorado’s history, to pass this challenging exam.
Nathaniel also loved to travel, and frequently traveled throughout the U.S., London, France, Spain and Italy. Nathaniel was a born again Christian who loved God and faithfully read his bible every day. He broadened his Christian education by completing ministerial training and service classes. His parents, Charles Harvey and Willie Lee Willis, his brother, Frank Harvey and his first wife, Annette Harvey, precede him in death. His wife, Felisa Kulba-Harvey, Daughter, Charlene Bills and his beloved cousin, Lady Lillie Williams, survive Nate as well as four grandchildren and their spouses: Annette & Jeremy Frazier, Angela & Eric Jones, Pedell III & Deborah Bills, and Dana & Deione Cox. He was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren: Caleb & Kaitlyn Bills, Ian & Oliver Jones, and Deione Jr., Danielle and Daisha Cox.
The family gratefully acknowledges and appreciates all those who knew Nate, loved him and helped him along the way. God bless you. A graveside service will be held at The National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona on November 8, 2018 at 12:30 am at 23029 Cave Creek Road Phoenix, Arizona 85024.
