

Nettie Chew Ong passed on her 95th Birthday with loving family at her side. She was born on September 24, 1919 in Red Bluff, CA to CHEW Siu Lim and NG Shee. She grew up in Red Bluff and spent many hours of her youth working with her family in the California Cafe and Ming Terrace Cafe there. Some years later while working at the cafe she met Robert Ong. They married in Reno, NV on Aug 11, 1959 and moved to Phoenix, Arizona.
In Phoenix she worked at Turf Paradise Race Track. She worked at the Track for 34 years and met many of her life’s friends there.
She enjoyed traveling and saw many parts of the world. She participated with exercise and yoga groups. She was an avid MahJong player and hosted many games in her home as well as card games in her neighborhood. She has many friends and relatives and her phone list rivals the City White Pages and her memory was always sharp and she remembered most names and numbers without looking.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, an older brother Dick Chew, and her sister Violet (Dong). Survived by brother Joe Chew, Sacramento, CA and her step children with Robert: Roberta (Roumel) McLean, VA; Loretta (Frost) of Salt Lake City, UT; Victor Ong of Tucson, AZ.; Gayla (Burnay) of Brussels Belgium
Services will be held Saturday, October 4th at 11 a.m. in the Serenity Chapel at Greenwood Cemetery, 2300 West Van Buren St. PHX.
