Payten Isabella Merrill, 10, of Queen Creek, Arizona, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, February 2nd, 2019 at 6:30pm. Payten was born October 16th, 2008 and she took her last breaths while in the loving arms of her Father and Mother and surrounded by the family she loved so much. Payten is survived by her father and mother, Joseph and Kimberly Merrill, brother, Zachary Merrill, sister, Makenna Merrill, brother, Emmett Merrill, and sister, Avery Merrill, all of Queen Creek, Arizona. She is also survived by her large extended Merrill and Greene families whom she is loved dearly by.

Payten’s short, but beautiful, life was plagued with complications caused by Coffin Sirus Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder. Despite every challenge Payten faced, she brought incredible joy to those around her and those whom her life touched. She was always quick with a smile and wanted to hold the hand of those around her and her infectious smile could light up a room. During this difficult time, the family is comforted in knowing that she is at peace, free of her pain and suffering, and in Paradise with her Heavenly Father and her Savior, Jesus Christ, and other family members and friends who have passed before her.

Payten’s services will be held will be held Friday and Saturday February 8th and 9th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 20637 E. San Tan Blvd in Queen Creek, Arizona. Friday evening there will be a viewing from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the church and then funeral services will begin Saturday at 10:00 am at the church. The family will greet friends at 9:00 am prior to the service.

Payten will always be remembered in my heart for her bigger than life smile. It will be so nice to see that smile as she runs and jumps when I meet up with her in heaven.

I will always remember Payten as a girl whose eyes had the power to light up a room. While she verbally didn't speak, her eyes spoke to my soul and she and I had many conversations together that way, mostly about joy and love. Payten had a heart filled with love for all but most especially for her family. You could see it when any of her family members walked into a room. She was a great example of christlike love to me, an example I will carry with me always.

The sweet thing I keep remembering most is Paytens lovely smile. You just wanted to reach out to her and when you did she reached out to you and smiled that great smile. She was close so close to the Lord that you could feel it when you were around her. I loved watching her family around her. She was always part of them. She was always included. When they went on vacation this when they went to the beach. She was surrounded by love. She was a blessed little girl. And a great blessing to those she loved. I am so grateful to Joseph and Kim and they're sweet kids for their love and care and kindness and fun they showed to her. I love them dearly. I love this sweet little spirit. And look forward to the time when I can be with her again. I am blessed to be Paytens grandma.

Our sweet Payten was our angel on earth. She was a blessing and a joy to all of our family. I will always remember how her smile lit up her eyes and you could see the beauty of her spirit through them. While on this earth, Payten showed courage, determination, incredible strength, and grace through all of her trials and struggles. She taught me so much about strength of character. She loved people and always wanted to hold your hand, I believe that was her way of saying hello, I want to be a part of everything and everyone around me. Payten was mischievous, I will never forget the innocent look she would give you when she was caught gettin into something she shouldn’t, it was precious. Our sweet girl was in every way a joy. Payten, I will love and miss you everyday we are apart. I will think of you always and I look forward to the day we are reunited in our Heavenly Fathers kingdom, when I can hold you again. You are in my heart and I will love you eternally.

Payton was the light of her whole family. She brought joy to many people. Payton loved everyone. She is now dancing in heaven with many relatives that have passed before her. The Merril’s now have another guardian angel to look over them.

Payten reminded me of my brother the first time I saw her. She had this beautiful expressive sparkle in her eyes that spoke a thousand words. I always loved watching her jam out with her speaker. It will always be one of my dearest memories that she wanted to hold my hand. All my life to the Merrills and their angel-girl.

I had the opportunity to be sort of a nanny for Kim and Joseph for a few years. Payten taught me so much about people and life. Her smile made my day better. She was always holding everyone’s hands and smiling. ❤️
