

Phrona Mae Irene Polly Litzenberger went to her home in glory at the age of 80 on July 8, 2026. She was born in Chickasha, Oklahoma on July 26, 1945, to John L. and Ines Mae Mitchell. Polly came to Arizona as a baby shortly after World War II. She attended West High in Phoenix and was married to her husband John for 63 years.
Polly worked most of her adult life, taking about a 12-year sabbatical to raise children. She was very active in her children’s lives, both while they were in public school and then later when she taught them at home. Polly was known for her cooking, from her famous cookies and fried tacos to her infamous exploding pies and flying meatloaf. Polly came to Christ as a child and was very active in serving at church throughout most of her life.
Polly is survived by her husband, John Litzenberger; her siblings, Francina Humphrey and Robert Villa; her son, David Litzenberger, and his wife, Joy; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John L. Mitchell and Ines Villa.
