Rachel was born November 14, 1955 in Los Angeles, California to parents, Gilbert Fimbres and Belia Contreras.
Rachel attended St. Mary’s High school where she was on the Spirit Line and the softball team. After completing her education, she began working for the Arizona Department of Economic Security and worked there for 30 years until her retirement.
She was very fun loving and enjoyed dancing and laughing with her family at family gatherings. Her family meant everything to her, she always prayed for all her loved ones and was always there for them to lend an ear, to offer amazing advice and had a way of giving a better perspective on situations so they were easier to understand and handle. Rachel was selfless, and always put everyone else before herself. Her grandchildren were everything to her, she enjoyed nothing more than being with them, and watching them interact and play together.
Holidays were especially fun for Rachel, At Christmas time, she’d dress up as Santa for her children and all her nieces and nephews, which has now turned into a holiday tradition for the family. On Easter mornings, she’d leave a trail of carrots from the table to the door to show evidence that the Easter Bunny had been there the night before. She always made Holidays extra special.
Rachel was a great cook and made the best soups that the family always enjoyed. She made exquisite, and custom cakes for formal and special events. Although she was a great cook, she enjoyed going to Manuel’s Mexican Restaurant and Cantina to have her favorite, red chili burro enchilada style.
Rachel always had a way with words, singing creative songs to her grandchildren, and creating her own funny words and phrases. One of these that she’d always use was: “See you around like a doughnut!” - Rachel

Fill not your heart with pain and sorrow, but remember me in every tomorrow. Remember the joy, the laughter, the smiles, I’ve only gone to rest a little while. Although my leaving causes pain and grief, my going has eased my hurt and given me relief. So dry your eyes and remember me not as I am now, but as I used to be. Because I will remember you all and look on with a smile, Understand, in your hearts, I’ve only gone to rest a little while. As long as I have the love of each of you, I can live my life in the hearts of all of you.
A Memorial Mass and celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2022 at 11:00 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church 909 E. Washington Street, Phoenix, AZ.
