

Richard Lee Crouch, 79, of Litchfield Park, Arizona, passed away on Monday, March 7, 2016 at 4:15pm at Abrazo West Campus due to cancer. Richard was born on May 10, 1936 in Springfield, Illinois to Lucile and Maurice L. Crouch; he was an only child. The family lived in Iowa until Richard was six and then moved to Arizona, settling in Phoenix. Richard attended Whittier Elementary, was in the class of ’54 at North High School, and later graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
While in high school and college, Richard was in the ROTC; upon graduating ASU, he entered the U.S. Army as a Lieutenant. While in the military, he commanded a tank battalion in Western Berlin and Augsburg, Germany.
After returning to Phoenix, he began his accounting career at the Arizona Highway Department, leaving there to go with the Phoenix Transit System where he worked as a Certified Public Accountant and Internal Auditor. He retired as the Assistant General Manager of the Finance Department in 2001. He was active in the Phoenix Chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors and served one term as President.
In his younger days, he was active in the Scottsdale Jaycees and was honored to serve as their Vice President and then President.
He enjoyed football and was an avid fan of the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.
Richard met his wife, Millie, at “The Never on Friday Club.” They married on April 15, 1966; this April would have been their 50th wedding anniversary.
Over the years, Richard and Millie spent many vacations in San Diego at their condo in Encinitas. One of Richard’s greatest joys was deep sea fishing at Seaforth sporting fishing with his son and grandsons. Richard and Millie also enjoyed traveling, especially cruising. They felt blessed to have had the opportunity to travel to many places including England, Europe, Hawaii, Mexico, and Australia.
Richard is survived by his wife, Millie, of Litchfield Park; son, Chuck; daughter-in-law, Beth; grandsons, Andrew and Jonathan, all of Tucson; and cousin, Ned Soseman Jr., of Camdenton, Missouri.
