Robert Dale Redmond, 68 of Landover Hills, MD, passed away May 27, 2017, while on an extended visit with family in Phoenix. He was born October 21, 1948 to Virginia Mae (formerly Murphin) and James Edward Redmond in Washington D.C. Bobby, as his family called him was one of six children. While growing up he did well as a student, often helping his brother Danny with his schoolwork. Like many young men, he like to spend time “girl watching” and never lost his appreciation for female beauty. Robert also demonstrated a mechanical aptitude and love for cars. He had a 64 Cutless Convertible, a GTO, and Chevy Truck just to name a few. Robert’s mechanical skills led to a career of over 38 years with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, (WMATA), many years maintaining equipment and eventually becoming a lead man and supervisor. Although he was a quiet and reserved man, he made sure to communicate his appreciation for the people he worked with, often providing gifts of chocolate. At Christmastime, the ladies loved to decorate the office for the holiday and Robert provided a tree and all the trimmings. He relished the joy on their faces as they spread the Christmas cheer. He was quick to help others, even letting his brother Mike use his mechanical drawing kit, when they were younger. Years later, Bobby gave Mary and her second husband spending money for their honeymoon in Hawaii. He paid for Linda's wedding, walking her down aisle and giving her away, their father having passed away many years ago. When not working Bob loved to spend his time fishing and visiting family. He enjoyed large family gatherings, especially around Christmas. He leaves many memories that will make his family smile including a visit to Missouri “to check out his sister’s new husband” and an occasion where he fell in at Cabin Johns; he had to swim after his fishing pole. Many will remember him as a very caring person, always ready to help anyone that he could. He is survived by two brothers Daniel and Dennis Michael Redmond; and three sisters, Selma Jean Redmond, Mary Ann Tait, and Linda Moss. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, June 6, 2017, 10:00am at Shadow Mountain Mortuary, 2350 E. Greenway Road (South of Greenway Parkway on Cave Creek Road) Phoenix, AZ 85022. Burial to follow at Phoenix Memorial Park, Phoenix, AZ. Arrangements under the direction of Shadow Mountain Mortuary, Phoenix, AZ.
