Rose Ong, 98, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2020 in Phoenix. The oldest of six children, Rose was born in San Francisco to Jim Sr. and Lucy before moving to Phoenix as a young child. Her earliest memories were of working long hours in the family run grocery store-- Jim Ong Market in Phoenix. She will fondly be remembered as a beloved daughter, sister and aunt.

Rose was a dedicated public school teacher who taught hundreds of children over the course of 43 ½ years in the classroom at Ann Ott Elementary School in the Phoenix Elementary School District. She will always be remembered as a tireless education advocate.

She enjoyed traveling the world with friends and family, trying her luck at the slot machines at nearby casinos and volunteering with the Heard Museum and various organizations to serve the Chinese American community.

Private services will be held at Greenwood Cemetary. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Heard Museum or Northwest Chinese Baptist Church in Phoenix.

I will always remember the fun times spent during the hot Arizona summers with Aunt Rose while growing up. She was always kind, loving, and generous. I will also miss her smile!

Aunt Rose

You are the one who laid the foundation upon which the Ong Family flourished after your parents (our grandparents) settled in this great nation, our United States of America.

We are forever indebted to you for having lived your life for the family and saw to it that all would be fine. We all love you.

Thank you. May God bless you as you pass onto your next phase of life with our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus.

Rose,
You will be missed! We had lots of great times, especially at the Chinese events! Who will keep me in stitches?!?!?!

We never made it to the casinos and I'm sorry! I am going, in your honor...fingers crossed, Rose!

My family thought the world of you and yours so just know we are thinking about you!

All my love and kisses...until we meet again...
