Russell was born in Rockford, Illinois, on January 14, 1955, to Walter and Elivina Anna Swanson Ross. He was the youngest of four children. Russell was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, David. He leaves behind his sisters, Gloria and Kadie.
Russell met his high school sweetheart, Linda, and the two were married. Although their marriage eventually came to an end, Linda remained an important part of Russell’s life. Together, they had three children: Joanna, Russell, and Ray. Throughout their lives, Russell and Linda continued to parent their children together and remained connected as a family.
Later, Russell met Patricia Ann Cooley Ross. Patricia brought her daughter, LeeAnn, into the relationship. Russell became an important part of LeeAnn’s life, and together Russell and Patricia welcomed another daughter, Diana.
Russell dedicated 45 years of his life to Precise Metal, where he worked as a sheet metal machinist. His strong work ethic and dedication to his career were an important part of the life he built for his family.
Russell enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He loved road trips, camping, and hosting the holidays for family and friends. He had a special love for flowers and took great pride in his rose beds. Russell was a good friend to many and enjoyed building models and putting together puzzles.
Russell will be remembered for his love of family, his hard work, his friendships, and the many memories he created throughout his life. Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort knowing that he has been reunited with his parents, Walter and Elivina, and his brother, David.
Russell leaves behind his children, Joanna, Russell, Diana, Ray, and LeeAnn; his sisters, Gloria and Kadie; his former wife, Linda; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Russell will be honored with a private service. At a later date, he will be laid to rest beside Patricia at Rest Haven Park Cemetery.
