

Ruth Elmira Lowe Baker, 93, passed away on March 27, 2011. Ruth was born on October 1, 1917 in Lima, Ohio. A high school graduate, bookkeeper for the family owned business – Baker Painting and Decorating. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Tempe, UCC and a lifetime member of the Starlight Chapter #16, Mesa, Arizona. Mrs. Baker was a published poetess and storyteller as well as an artist of crocheting. She made a multitude of Afghans; many for wounded soldiers returning from Iraq as well as lap robes for the elderly in a care home. Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, John William Baker and a son, Jerry Baker. She is survived by her son John Baker Jr. of Azle, Texas; her daughter Ruth Forshee of Tempe; and a sister Naomi Piersall of Oregon and a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting contributions to the Crippled Children’s Association, First Congregational Church of Tempe, UCC or a charity of your choice in Ruth’s name. A memorial service will be held on May 7, 2011 at 2:00 pm at First Congregational Church of Tempe, UCC 101 E. 6th St., Tempe, AZ 85281. Arrangements are being held under the direction of Carr Tenney Mortuary.
