

Samuel Herbert Gray, born November 19, 1941, in Anna, Illinois, to Alton John Gray and Violet Kathren Bizzle, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2026, in Phoenix, Arizona, at the age of 84.
Samuel attended school in Illinois and went on to complete four years of college, earning his Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. He proudly became a Registered Nurse and dedicated his life to his profession, remaining in the nursing field until his retirement.
In September 1962, Samuel proudly joined the United States Army. He served during the Vietnam era and was honorably discharged in September 1965 at the rank of E-4.
Samuel is survived by his daughter, Bettina Diepold; his granddaughters, Maria, Doris, and Anna; and his great-grandchildren, Oskar, Adam, Hektor, Ava, and Erik.
Samuel will be escorted home to Germany by his granddaughter, Maria, where he will be with his Family.
He will be remembered for his dedication to his profession, his honorable service to his country, and, most of all, his love for his family. He was deeply loved by his family, and that love will remain with us always.
Though our hearts are heavy with his passing, we are grateful for the time we shared with him and for the memories he gave us. Samuel will never be forgotten. His memory will live on in his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
