Samuel E. Messina, Sr. went home to his Heavenly Father on April 27. Sam was born to Joseph and Florence Messina on July 6, 1933 in Ellwood City, PA. He served in the U.S. Army from May 1953-March 1955. Sam married Glenda McMunn, his wife of 58 years on September 18, 1956. He enjoyed his work in the aerospace industry working for Sperry Flight Systems, Mechtronixs, Honeywell and L-3. You could always find Sam in the stands of a baseball game. He was the biggest fan as he watched his son coach and his grandson play. Many incredible friendships were made at the ballpark over the years. Sam is survived by his wife Glenda, son Samuel Jr. (Kim), grandchildren Allyson & Samuel III, brother-in-law & sister-in-law Richard & Marlene Painter, nephew Bob Messina (Ellwood City, PA), and niece Karen (Craig) Taylor (Goose Creek, SC). Please join the family for a Celebration of Life on Tues., May 5 @ 10 A.M. at Christ’s Church of the Valley Peoria Campus: 7007 W. Happy Valley Rd. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Sam’s name to The Fellowship of Christian Athletes P.O. Box 34466 Phoenix, AZ 85067.
