It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Sandra Joyce Sherlock (Heller) on January 19, 2022, in Phoenix, AZ. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her three daughters only 36 hours after the love of her life, Marvin, her husband of 62 years passed away by her side on January 17, 2022.
Sandra grew up in Brooklyn, New York with her parents Eva (Rosenblum) and Harry Heller and her older sister Elaine. She graduated from Erasmus High School before attending art school. She married her husband Marvin Sherlock in 1959 and they moved to Smithtown, New York a few years later. Sandra and Marvin set out to adopt a baby in 1965 and were surprised to find out just weeks before flying out to Miami, Florida to meet their baby, that they would in fact be adopting twins, their daughters, Helene and Donna. Sandra then gave birth to another daughter, Cynthia in 1969. Sandra worked in various administrative office jobs and volunteered for the Women in Distress helpline. After retirement, Sandra and Marvin spent some time in Las Vegas, Nevada before spending the last several years of their lives in Phoenix, Arizona.
Sandra enjoyed cooking her favorite dishes and watching cooking shows, reading (she was a regular at the library), art, gardening, genealogy, game shows like Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, medical shows, traveling to Hawaii, following the stock market, Barbra Streisand, and playing games on her iPad. She loved spending quality time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. Sandra was a lifelong Democrat, standing up and speaking her mind against injustice and felt strongly about showing gratitude to kind people.
Sandra is survived by her three daughters, Helene, Donna, and Cynthia, and her three grandchildren, Danielle (Kevin), James, and Justin. She is also survived by her beloved nieces Meryl and Sharon and their families. Sandra was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, her parents Eva and Harry Heller, and her sister Elaine Hershkowitz.
Sandra was a very loving, smart, always authentic woman with a unique sense of humor and a contagious laugh. She was very loved and will be deeply missed.
