Shirley Nadine Yungfleisch passed away surrounded by family on Thursday, August 4, 2022, in Gilbert, Arizona. She was born September 13, 1938, in Hamilton, Ohio, to Lawrence Nelson Swingle and Ruth Magdalene Moore.
She married Leo Aloysius Yungfleisch on October 17, 1959, in Columbus, Ohio, while he served in the Navy. She worked as an ER nurse at various hospitals until children came. She could heal anything with 7-UP, Noxzema, or Dristan. They lived in Michigan, Massachusetts, Ohio, Oklahoma, and Arizona.
Shirley loved people, talked to everybody, and made them feel welcome and valued. She enjoyed reading and tried other hobbies, including piano, toll painting, upholstery, weaving, and knitting. She strove to always keep a clean home and was very organized. Her playful, teasing nature was contagious.
She is survived by her two siblings: Karen Rhodes (David), and Michael, and her five children: Teresa (Michael) Crowley, Chris, Jeff (Emily), Eric (Elizabeth), and Jennifer (Art) Coykendall, nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild (with another on the way).
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 13, 2022, at Our Lady of Sorrows, 750 E Baseline Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85041. Rosary will begin at 9:45 AM, followed by a Requiem Mass.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Our Lady of Sorrows Academy (same address), St. Jude’s Hospital, or the Society of St. Vincent DePaul.
