It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Stephen James LaForest, age 65, of Cave Creek, Arizona. Stephen was born in North Adams, Massachusetts on May 1,1954 and passed away on Sunday January 12, 2020.

Steve grew up in Williamstown, Massachusetts, attended Mt Greylock Regional high school, went on to receive his Associates Degree in Occupational studies of Automotive Mechanics. Steve moved out to Arizona with his family in 1976. Steve met Margie in 1981 and were happily married by 1983.

Steve is survived by his wife Margie, his sons Brian and Nick and his daughter Sarah. Grandchildren, Anna, Elijah and Lucas. His brother Henry(Kris) and sister Aimee(Brad), his niece Erika, and nephews Kevin, Christopher, and Zachary.

Steve was a wonderful husband and father, he never failed to brighten a room and filled our ears with endless stories of his times of travel. His love for music showed by playing the guitar and singing for his family. There was nothing Steve could not do, he was always busy making sure his home was a sanctuary for family and friends to enjoy. In his spare time he loved working on his 58' Chevy and taking it to car shows, where his talent was on display and rewarded with trophies. He loved being outdoors, whether playing with the dogs, going fishing and kayaking or enjoying a beer by the pool. Steve and Margie spent his early retirement RVing across the country and seeing many beautiful national parks. Steve was a member of the Elks, where he played pool three times a week with his friends. In the evenings, he enjoyed watching PBS and animal shows, often with a little dish of ice cream. He may no longer be on this earth, but he will forever walk by our sides and be in our hearts.

A memorial service for Stephen will be held Friday, January 24, 2020 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Phoenix Memorial Park and Mortuary, 200 West Beardsley Road, Phoenix, AZ 85027. A cremation will occur.

Hard to believe some of my classmates are passing away.

Steve's memories for me date back to Jr and early high school when Steve was a guitar player in our rock and roll band. I remember well practicing , playing at school dances, and parties. It was a shortlived notion of stardom but he was a good leader of the band, and had a fun sense of humor. From that early friendship, we also enjoyed tinkering with our motorcycles and riding in the back woods together. I guess this moment in time to remember Steve is also appreciated because these are moments I otherwise had forgotten . My condolences to his family and sad to say good bye to someone too young.
