It is with great sadness that we share our beloved mother Sylvia Handlin Husted, 91, of Phoenix, AZ passed away on 5/31/2026. She was born in Lincoln, Illinois on 8/9/1934. She graduated from Millikin University with a degree in Music Education. While attending Millikin she met Eldon Lynn Husted, they were married on 6/18/1954.
Sylvia furthered her education at ASU earning a master’s degree in education. She was a teacher with the Glendale Union High School District. In retirement she was a member of the “Sage Brushes” art club. She was a gifted watercolor artist and won several awards in local art shows for her paintings.
Sylvia is survived by daughters Laura (Jeff) Squires & Emily McAndrews, granddaughters Jenelle Rodriguez & Hannah McAndrews, & great granddaughter Naomi Ortega. Her brother Daniel Handlin & Sister Marylou Goodwin preceded her in death.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Arizona Humane Society, a charity close to Sylvia’s heart.
