Toya Alexandria Bruton

January 7, 1990May 31, 2021

Toya Alexandria Bruton, a beautiful young soul, has passed away on May 31, 2021, in the comfort of her mother’s home and care located in Glendale, Arizona. She was diagnosis with Wilsons’ Disease in October 2020 which led to her short and untimely death a mere 7 months later. Toya was 31 years old.

Toya was born the youngest of three girls, on January 7th, 1990, in Harbor City, California. Her personality was the definition of exciting. If you look up excitement in the dictionary, you will see a picture of her. Her smile was huge. Her laugh was contagious. Her energy was flamboyant. And her love was pure. In 2009, Toya completed Cosmetology school from Lancaster Beauty School in Lancaster California. Pursuing her love of hairstyling and maintaining healthy hair was a gift she was handed down from her oldest sister and personal beautician. But that career was not enough, Toya would later become a Glendale Community College Graduate, earning her Associates Degree in Liberal Arts with a minor in American Sign language May 2017, in her new home state of Glendale, Arizona. And In February 2018, Toya experienced the greatest accomplishment of them all, motherhood. Her son Landon would become her world, as she just existed within it.

Toya ultimately found her calling as a Caregiver for developmentally disabled adults with Arizona Mentors. She absolutely loved this career. She would often tell us about the field trips she would take her “clients” on and the fun they would have together. And, for the first time in her life, she enjoyed being “a big sister.” Toya loved volunteer work. Working beside affiliates such as The Arizona Special Olympics where she assisted in Olympic style events for disabled competitors. Toya would also volunteer often with UMOM, a nonprofit group, that specialize in updating, cleaning, and painting community playgrounds and facilities.

Our angel is survived by her three-year-old son Landon Alexander Bruton, her mother Beverlye Hopson, stepfather Bobby Hopson, biological father Calvin Bruton, her oldest sister Shauntee Wade, middle sister Teshaun Morton, brothers in law Darryl and Jeff, 3 Nieces and 4 nephews, her first love and best friend Joe, and a heap of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

After a day made completely about her, Toya transitioned peacefully at her home surrounded by her mother, stepfather, son, and sisters.

After today I realized how many lives you have touched dear Toya. Today your cousin mentioned that you handed out football lanyards to everyone one year because you thought of all of them. He also received a 49's back pack from you. He still has both. When I got home I realized you left me something that I use every single day. You bought me a child size Olaf bracelet because you knew how much I loved Olaf. You said "I know it's a kids bracelet but I wanted to get it for you and thought you could put it on your keychain." Well, there it is on my Keychain, years later, and every day I feel for that bracelet to find my keys in my Mary Poppins sized purse. I will keep this bracelet forever and think of you every day, especially when I reach for my keys. Thank you for all of the years you loved my son. You will be missed! Now...go show those Angels how to fly with attitude.

The Ballard family loves you!
