Valintine Marquez was born in Lyman, Nebraska on January 1st 1932 to Ruby and Sylvano Marquez. He had five sisters Stella, Angie, Frances, Mary and Julia. He had three brothers Manuel, Mike and Rudy. He met his wife Peggy of 67 years while working the fields. They started their life in Wyoming close to extended family and began their own family with their support. They moved their family to Barstow, California in 1964. Val worked very hard to support his growing family, many times working three jobs at a time. He worked at Hayward Lumber, Barstow Community Hospital and H&E. He spent most of his time working for the Barstow School District for 29 years. Val an Peggy raised their 11 children five boys: Sonny, Roger, Robert, Manuel and Joseph (who died as an infant) and six girls Barbara, Nancy, Virginia, Sherry, Cindy and Lisa. Their home was a welcoming gathering place for family and friends. They had a pool table, swimming pool, good food, and music. Val loved to sing Mexican music and he also played the trumpet. Everyone enjoyed their parties. Val and Peggy loved to dance and hear music. Val would enter Karaoke contests and even win some competitions. He loved to sing and was good at it. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Val was good hearted, generous and kind. He was always ready to help his family. He often said yes when someone needed help. He was generous to his wife and very rarely said no to her requests. Val and Peggy were blessed with 18 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Each of them loved. They had many opportunities to travel and visit their children and family. They went to reunions in Wyoming, Colorado and Sacramento. They visited Virginia in Texas, Germany and saw Europe. They visited Lisa in Pennsylvania and Florida. They visited Manuel in New York. They visited Nancy in Washington, and granddaughter Meika in Texas. Val is preceded in death by his mom Ruby and her husband Joe Palacios, his sisters Stella Flores and Mary Duran, His brothers Manuel Marquez, his son Joseph Marquez, his daughters Barbara Kent and Nancy James ( her husband Michael living). He is survived by one brother Rudy Duran and his wife Eva of Barstow. He is survived by sisters: Frances Sanchez and her husband Jerry of Wyoming, Angie Montoya of Elk Grove, Julia Kalwani of San Bernardino, Roger Marquez, Robert Marquez and Manuel Marquez of New York. He is survived by his daughters: Virginia and her husband Raul Carrillo of Texas, Sherry and her husband Charles Little of Arizona, Cindy and her husband Barry White of Arizona and Lisa McAllister and her husband Mac of Florida.
About three years ago they moved to Arizona as they needed more help. They lived with their daughter Cindy and her husband Barry who took good care of them along with their great-granddaughter Markayla. It was a labor of love that the family greatly appreciated. Val passed away peacefully inn his sleep next to his beloved wife on May 25th 2019.
