Vergie Mary Morris
August 6, 1932 – June 20, 2020
Vergie M. (Worthey) Morris was born August 6, 1932 to the late Elijah and Hattie (Dixon) Worthey in McKeesport, PA. She was the fourth daughter. Eva, Edna, and Laura preceded her. Hattie (Dixon) Worthey died in 1985 and James Elijah Worthey died in 1989. She leaves one sister, Laura Jenkins, of McKeesport, PA.
After graduating from McKeesport High School in 1951, she moved to Washington DC to start her Civil Service career in the government. Washington DC is also where she met and married Raymond I. Morris. Vergie obtained several positions. The most rewarding was staring her supervisory position at Geico at the main office in Bethesda, MD. She retired in 1996 from ITAC, an intelligence agency, and moved to Roswell, New Mexico. Shortly after living in Roswell, New Mexico, she moved to Phoenix, Arizona where she attended Estrella and Glendale Community Colleges.
Her recreational activities included golf, acting, and entrepreneurship. She loved traveling, meeting people, and receiving numerous awards for her government service.
Along with her two children, Michael and Sheila of Arizona, Vergie is survived by a host of relatives. They include nephews James L. Saylor and wife Angela of Pittsburgh, PA; Bernard and Bruce Roberts of McKeesport, PA; niece, Harriet Saylor of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; nephew, James “Jay” Saylor and his wife, Danette and their two children Jai and Mason of Tallahassee, FL/New Orleans; and other extended family in the Pennsylvania area.
