Viola Marie Shaffer Reid, 94 passed away December 15, 2018 in Phoenix, Arizona. Viola was born in Trenton, Nebraska where she grew up until she was 16. She was an amazing Mother, daughter, wife, sister, cousin and best friend to a lot of people. Viola was part of the Race horse family of thoroughbreds and quarter horses. She also did piece work for Camp Trails and a bartender at Stagecoach for many years. Viola was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Deer Valley. She was a homemaker, gardener, farmer, handmade quilts, raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, crocheter, dancer, pool playing, gospel singing, country music and most of all her famous fried chicken dinners after Sunday church. Viola loved her poodle dogs and sports.
Viola was preceded in death by her husband Fred "Babe" Shaffer, her daughter Janet Rose Shaffer and great granddaughter Jocelyn Sanders.
She leaves behind brother Harold DeGarmo, her children Carol Baxter (David), Terry Gonzales, Frederick Shaffer (Aaron Kurka), Donna Felter (Kevin), Jean Shaffer and Dean Shaffer (Debora). Also 28 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren and 15 great great grandchildren. Along with several neighborhood children that she took under her wings.
Services will be Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 11:00 am at Phoenix Memorial Park and Mortuary 200 West Beardsley Road Phoenix, Arizona 85027.
Pallbearers for her service will be: Walter Slaysman Jr., Timothy Gonzales, Andrzej Jakubowski, Robert Millett, Richard Walker Sr., Jason Smith, Zakary Barber and Victor Martinez Jr.
