

Master Sergeant (Ret.) Walter Ortiz passed away on November 11, 2025, at the age of 82. A decorated leader and Vietnam War veteran, Walter was renowned for his love of country, honor, and the leadership he inspired in those who served alongside him.
Born on January 14, 1943, in Mineola, New York, to the late William and Florence Ortiz, Walter is survived by his sons Gregory and Walter, his beloved grandchildren Julia and Sofia, and his siblings Gloria (Izzo) and Edgar. He is also lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Walter proudly served for 22 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a Master Sergeant. Throughout his distinguished military career, he earned recognition for his dedication and performance, serving in multiple countries, including Thailand during the Vietnam War. His aspiration was to achieve the rank of Senior Master Sergeant - a testament to his ambition and commitment.
After retiring from the Air Force, Walter settled in Hephzibah, Georgia. Never one to sit still, he began a second career with Procter & Gamble at the granular soap production plant near his home. Over 21 years, he advanced from the packing line to Quality Control Lead before retiring once again.
Walter will be remembered as a leader, teacher, and friend - a man whose strength was matched only by his humanity. His rich sense of humor brought comfort and joy to those around him.
Services will be held in Arizona on December 4, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Wounded Warrior Project in Walter's memory.
