He was preceded in death by father William Herbert Stewart and mother Catherine Geary Stewart, his loving brother Keith Douglas Stewart. Survived by his devoted and loving wife Helen Louise Stewart of 54 yrs and his sister Barbara, brother Michael and his children Daughter Jennifer Underwood (Keith), son Jeremy Stewart (Naomi), son Zachary Stewart (Dara). Grandchildren: Katie and Jake Underwood, Jaxon and Zoe Stewart, Tyler, Jane, Iris Stewart and Julian Kaiser.
He bravely served in the United States Navy as a Seabee. Bill’s expertise in electronic technical capabilities were quite advanced. He worked as a computer programmer and a data analyst pioneering two major systems within the hotel and reservation community. He was extremely loved and appreciated by his coworkers who when speaking about him used words like kind, special, exceptional and amazing.
He loved to tell stories, or some would say “over share” but it was truly a way he showed how much he cares about others and how he valued people even if he didn’t know them. At every event you could bet that Bill would have a video camera or phone capturing all the special moments so that they could be shared for a lifetime.
Bill was an amazing athlete. While playing on a softball team with his son in law he was recruited to play on a competitive senior softball team in his 60’s. He was affectionally referred to as “The Hoover” picking up every ball that came his way on 3rd base like a vacuum. Bill and Helen enjoyed many wonderful times on tournament trips and made lifelong friends.
He loved being a grandfather but to his grandchildren he was and will forever be known as Papa. They were his proudest accomplishments. Bill will always be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father and a great friend to all.
A memorial will be held on Saturday March 11th at Desert Horizon Park 16002 N. 56th st. Phoenix from 11am-1pm.
