Winnifred Van Landingham DeMund, also known as Mom, Gram, and GG (Great Grandma) at 82 years of age, passed from this life on March 9, 2015 to be in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was born on November 28, 1932 in Tolleson, Arizona, and was the last surviving of Guy and Rubie Van Landingham’s 10 children. She was preceded in death by her husband, James P. DeMund, and two sons, Steven and Barry DeMund. Mom is survived by five children, sons Lester, Greg and Phil, and daughters Denise Brown and Julie Crossman. Gram is also survived by nine of the most handsome and beautiful grandchildren in the world who were only surpassed in their grace, charm, charisma and good looks by GG’s five beloved great grandchildren. Winnifred had a heart of gold and was a very generous personality. She was loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed. She attended Arizona State University for three years in the nursing program when she met the incredibly tall, handsome, and talented Jazz trumpet musician and computer marketing genius, James P. DeMund, also a Phoenix native. They were married on May 1, 1954. Winnifred was a member of her college Chi Omega Club in Sun City and Phoenix, the Tolleson Come with Me Club, and was a parishioner at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Sun City.
A visitation will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 719 N 27th Ave Phoenix, AZ 85009, followed by a graveside service at 11:00am. Winnifred’s wish was in lieu of flowers, to have donations be made to your favorite charity.
