A Celebration of Life will be January 13, 2022 at 11:00am at Dillard Memorial Funeral Home, 2402 Gentry Memorial Hwy, Pickens, SC 29671.
Barbara was born in New York to Alice and Clem Haines on June 9, 1938. She graduated from St. Lawrence Academy in New York and graduated top of her class from Grace Downs Airline Hostess School. Barbara married the love of her life, and best friend, Donald Metz 64 years ago on September 21, 1957 at St. Anthony’s Church in Butler, New Jersey.
Barbara’s greatest love was her family, and she was tremendously proud of her 6 children that she and Don raised in Sylvan Lake, Il. She was happiest when the whole family, including spouses, 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, got together. These gatherings were always boisterous and full of laughter, music, games, and even the occasional food fight.
Her passion for playing guitar and piano was evident in her active involvement in church guitar groups where she not only played but took a leadership role. She also loved playing card games, especially bridge, listening to Neil Diamond, and watching football.
Her small business, Designs by Barbara Anne, showcased her talent in crocheting, knitting, sewing, calligraphy, drawing and painting. Her most remarkable painting was of Gandalf and Frodo from the Hobbit.
Barbara was also passionate about serving her community through La Sertoma, PTA, Booster Clubs, and as a deaconess.
Barbara is preceded in death by parents, Alice and Clem Haines and son Gregory James Metz.
Barbara is survived by her husband Donald and 5 of their children and spouses: Don and Sandy Metz, Mary Metz, Terri and Gary Johnson, Pam and Andy Ancel, Ken and Joan Metz, and Suzanne and Dale Ellicott. Barbara will also be missed by Grandchildren: Jenny and Kim Metz, Maggie Metz and Claire Allison, Christopher and Adam Johnson, Katie and Brian Rucka, Elizabeth and Joe Ancel, Lauren and Michael Metz, Alexis Phillips, Bella and Gregory Ellicott, Great Grandchildren: May and Owen Allison.
