

Born in Pickens County on March 20, 1946, he was the son of the late, Lloyd and Inez Hawkins Cantrell.
He was an attentive and devoted husband to his wife, Delta Crenshaw Cantrell, his sweetie, his bride, his everything. In addition to being a loving husband, he was a faithful member of Mountain View Baptist Church, where he proudly served as Baritone in the Mountain View Quartet. Mr. Cantrell was a born again Christian and enjoyed sharing his faith and love of Christ with others.
He honorably served in the United States Airforce as an Electrical Power Production Specialists. After his time serving in the military, he began his career with Milliken where he retired after 38 years of service. After retirement he was able to enjoy many of his hobbies. Of those hobbies, he was a singer, songwriter, and musician, having written hundreds of original songs that were shared and treasured by many. Mr. Cantrell was also an avid fisherman but was known to be out-fished a time or two by his wife.
Mr. Cantrell bled garnet and was a die-hard South Carolina Gamecock fan. He will be remembered as a jokester; always looking for ways to make someone laugh. His bright smile and personality will be greatly missed.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Delta Crenshaw Cantrell, are his children, Gary Cantrell (Sonya), Robert Cantrell (Missie), and Wesley Cantrell (Jodi), along with their mother, Margaret, and his bonus children Gary and Misty Todd.
Mr. Cantrell is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, whom he sincerely cherished. He is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Cantrell was predeceased by brothers, David Cantrell (Kay), Alton Cantrell (Gayle) Curtis Cantrell (Libby), and a grandson, Michael Smith.
The family will be receiving friends on March 1, 2026, from 1:30 p.m. until 2:50 p.m. at Mountain View Baptist Church, in Six Mile with his funeral service following at 3:00 p.m. A committal service with military honors will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park with entombment in the Mausoleum.
The service will be livestreamed at mvbcsixmilesound or may be viewed on Facebook @ Mountain View Baptist Church, for those not able to attend.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain View Baptist Church for the enrichment of choir needs.
