Carson Washington Roper, known to most as “CW,” “Dub,” “Pop,” or “Poppa Dub”, passed away at his home in the Flat Rock community below Liberty, South Carolina, dying in the very house where he was raised. He was 85 years old.
Born in a nearby house on October 8, 1940, Carson lived his entire life in the community, working hard and caring for those around him. He worked for 38 years as a line supervisor and maintenance technician for Sangamo (later Schlumberger and Cornell Dubilier) before retiring.
Outside of work, Carson was a diligent gardener who took pride in a good harvest, an avid hunter and fisherman, and a highly sought-after player in local church softball leagues. In quieter moments, he enjoyed unwinding with classic TV westerns.
Faith and family meant everything to Carson. He was a longtime member and ordained Deacon at Calumet Baptist Church. He and his wife, Mozelle Cannon Roper of Pickens, were married for 65 wonderful years.
He is survived by his wife, Mozelle; his children, David Jeffery Roper (Michelle) of Moncks Corner, Cindi Roper Mullinax (Mike) of Liberty, Tami Roper Peterman (Kenny) of Pickens, Kenneth Scott Roper (Karen) of Sunset, and Jill Roper Goessel (Jeff) of Titusville, Florida; 13 grandchildren; a growing circle of great-grandchildren; and many relatives and friends who loved him dearly.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday September 5, 2026 in the Chapel of Dillard Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 to 10:45 AM in the Garden Room.
