Cruz was born on September 8, 2010, in Greenville, South Carolina, to his loving parents, Megan Caddell Ellenburg and Charles “Charlie” Edwin Ellenburg III.
Cruz was a sophomore at Pickens High School and a wide receiver for the Blue Flame. He deeply cherished his friendships and was a blessing to all that knew him, every day. Cruz’s faith in the Lord was evident, and the love he received from his relationship with Jesus overflowed to those around him. He found joy in spending quiet evenings with his family, golfing, family trips to Holden Beach, spending time in nature, the tranquility of fishing, and a cup of sweet tea. His favorite way to end a weekend was to sit on the couch with his Poppa, and watch football. Cruz had love for many special things in his life, but above all, he loved his brother, Chaz.
Cruz held a deep love, and respect, for his parents. Early on, they instilled in him a devotion towards the Lord. As a family, they began their mornings by turning their day over to the lord and praying together, placing their trust and their lives in His hands. Cruz carried on this absolute devotion when he was baptized in 2021, outwardly expressing his love and faith in Jesus Christ.
Cruz never failed to make an impact on his surroundings and to strengthen the people around him. He was a great motivator in every situation and had the ability to know what should be said to help someone grow. He took value in the small things that he knew would create beautiful memories, and his keen eye always saw the world through a positive lens. His dry humor that gave way to his sweet grin always spread warmth to those who experienced it. Cruz’s face always reflected the peace that he felt, because he knew that true love is only felt when you gift it to the ones around you. We can now take comfort in knowing that Cruz is in the loving presence of the Lord, forever surrounded by His everlasting arms.
In addition to his parents, Megan and Charlie Ellenburg, Cruz is survived by his loving brother, Chaz Ellenburg; grandparents Ruth (Ruru) and Dean Holder, and Charles Ellenburg Jr.; aunts Monica Masters (Michael) and Jennifer Clayton; cousins, Mitchell and Mason Masters, Lauren and Lilly Winch.
Cruz was preceded in passing by grandparents, Lenard and Joan Caddell, and his uncle Cary Winch.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, September 25, 2026, in the Garden Room at Dillard Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 5:00 PM on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at United Wesleyan Church, located at 738 Rice Rd, Easley, SC 29640.
The family will hold a private burial following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made to Pickens Blue Flame Booster Club.
Dillard Funeral Home is assisting the Ellenburg family with their arrangements.
