Mrs. Doris Jeanette Addington

Jeanette married Joe A. Addington Sr. on September 30, 1950, and they were married for over 68 years. Joe joined the Air Force in 1950, and they spent 21 years serving their country in multiple locations in and outside of the United States. They moved back to Easley upon Joe’s retirement from service in 1971.

Jeanette was witty and sharp, never missing a beat. She had a deep love for reading, which was fitting for her favorite role as a college yearbook proofreader at Paragon Press in Montgomery, Alabama. Jeanette retired from AT&T after 23 years. She began her career as a switchboard operator and ended her career in sales and marketing. She loved recounting her adventures with Joe, especially their journeys to Tripoli, Libya, Africa and North Bay, Ontario, Canada. Jeanette also enjoyed traveling with her sister Florence to Ireland and South America. She loved visiting the beach, antiquing, bird watching, discussing history, and spending time with friends playing cards and telling stories at their Jocassee RV Campground. Her life was filled with excitement and joy.

Above all else, she loved her family. “Nanny” dearly adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, never missing an opportunity to race cars on the floor or join in their make-believe worlds. She possessed an extraordinary talent for making everyone feel acknowledged and valued, and her unique way of showing love through countless small acts of kindness will leave us feeling cherished forever.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband Joe, her father Walter Barnett and her mother Nora Fowler, brothers Walter and Haskell Barnett and a sister Florence Masters, brother-in-law Preston Raines (wife Betty), and a daughter-in-law Jeanie Addington (Allen).

Jeanette is survived by her son Joe “Allen” Addington Jr. and daughter Anna Marie Addington Dodge. She also leaves four grandchildren, Austin R. Dodge, Greg A. Dodge (wife Amanda), Ian R. Dodge (wife Ali), Evan J. Dodge, and six great grandchildren, Nylah, Jack, Elle, Luke, Dylan and Clay, sister-in-law Betty Raines, niece Susan Masters Goldman, and nephew Larry Raines (wife Leigh Ann and family), nephew Andy Addington (wife Laurie and family) to share in her memory.

She was a member of the Antioch United Methodist Church in Easley.

A visitation is planned for this Friday August 7th, 2026, from 5:30 p.m.- 7:30 p.m. at Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens, SC. The family will have a private graveside service at a later date.

Flowers will be accepted. Memorials may also be made to the Special Olympics for South Carolina and Meals on Wheels Pickens County.
