

Born on August 24, 1955, in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late Elmer Edward Nelms and Annie McClain Nelms. Doris was a sweetheart who lived life to the fullest and was known to joke. Some of her interests included camping, quilting, sewing and puzzles. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed watching hummingbirds, even having the chance to hold one. Above everything, she loved being a mother and grandmother.
Surviving are her husband, Frank Matthews; step-father, Joe Coyle; five children, Brian Nelms (Heather), Jessica Merchant, Micheal Lusk, Mark Lusk and Matthew Lusk; five sisters, Diane Stamey (Melvin), Gail Whitmer (Richard), Dea Smith (Aaron), Connie Roberts (Wayne) and Susan Freeman (Ronnie); one brother, Eddie Nelms (Kelly); seven grandchildren, Katlyn Holden, Gracie Lusk, Natalie Lusk, Blake Lusk, Cory Lusk, Kiley Lusk, Carter Degroff. When Doris left her earthly home, she met her grandson Kolbin Lusk and brother, Chris Nelms in heaven.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 1, 2020, from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Dillard Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. in the Dillard Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Bryan Holder officiating. A committal service will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.
