Edward was the son of Nathan and Mary Shiver. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed raising farm animals, planting and working on anything outside. Edward worked until his health prevented him from doing so and a strong work ethic is one of the lessons he instilled in his sons.
Edward and Madge Shivers raised five sons, Randy Shivers, Bill (Jeanean) Shivers, Greg (Mary) Shivers, Brian Shivers, and John (Sandra) Shivers. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Danielle, Sally, and Jason and two great-grandchildren, Jaden and Javen. Edward was preceded in death by his great-granddaughter, Venelope, three brothers, Harold, Charles, and Donald, and one sister, Dorothy.
