She is now with her Lord and her husband of 54 years, Herbert Calvin “Hub” Melton. Tootsie was a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who is incredibly loved by her family.
Born on May 13, 1926, in Liberty, SC, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Addie Willis. Tootsie was one of seven children and was also preceded in death by two brothers, Earl Willis and John Willis, and three sisters, Una “Chummy” Hughes, Betty Marsengill, and Gay Nell Julian.
She currently resided in Chesterfield, VA and was a past resident of Noblesville, IN, Corona, CA and a long-term resident of Easley, SC. Tootsie was retired from lifelong work in textiles and was a former member of Glenwood Baptist Church in Easley, SC, and a current member of Calvary Baptist Church in Noblesville, IN.
Tootsie leaves behind five children to share loving memories of her, James “Bonny” Melton, wife Barbara, of Liberty, SC; Billy Melton, wife Ligaya, of Easley, SC; Donny Melton, wife Becky, of Easley, SC; Judy Pruitt, husband Steve, of Easley, SC; and Debbie Trammell, husband Rick, of Chesterfield, VA. She is also survived by one sister, Ruby Morgan of Liberty, SC; ten grandchildren, Jamey Melton, Lori Harrelson, Lynn Dingwell, Leslie Butts, Connie Melton, Donna Looper, Mark “Herb” Melton, Stephen “Stevie” Pruitt, Richard “Richie” Pruitt, and Denny Trammell; and thirteen great-grandchildren, Griffin Capobianco, Isabelle Capobianco, Andy Melton, Lilly Melton, Ned Butts, Kennedy Butts, Claire Melton, Calvin Melton, Lauren Looper, Lindsey Looper, Brooklin Looper, Zachary Richardson, and Eli Pruitt.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 31, 2020, at 1 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens, SC, with the Reverend Richard Bell of Calvary Baptist Church in Noblesville, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Shriners Hospital for Children, St. Jude’s Children Hospital, or one’s choice of a Hospice Program.
