February 1, 1939 – October 13, 2025
Greer, South Carolina
Frederick Hamilton Nolan (Rick), 86, of Greer, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025. Born in New Jersey on February 1, 1939, he lived a full and meaningful life devoted to service, family, and adventure.
Having developed a lifelong love of the water, Rick proudly served six years in the United States Navy. Following his military service, he dedicated 26 years to the Newark New Jersey Fire Department, rising through the ranks to retire as Battalion Chief. His courage, leadership, and unwavering commitment to protecting others earned him the respect and admiration of all who served beside him. In his retirement, he worked offshore for Oceaneering and then did sightseeing tours of the surrounding bays and Gulf waters of Marco Island Florida.
Beyond his distinguished career, Rick found his greatest joy in the simple pleasures of life — spending time with his beloved wife, Neva Sharon Nolan, sailing and going on road trips together and creating cherished memories. He loved every opportunity to be with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, entertaining them with his endearing sense of humor.
Rick’s passion for adventure extended to the water, where he enjoyed sailing, water sports, and scuba diving. His enthusiasm for life and love for the ocean was matched only by his devotion to those he loved most. Rick came to know the Lord later in life and served as a deacon at Capri Christian Church on Isles of Capri, Florida.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, James Thomas Nolan and Dorothy Bernard Nolan. He is survived by his wife, Neva Sharon Nolan; his children, Kurtis Lee Nolan and Neva Suzanne Ott (spouse Keith); grandchildren, Neva Kayleen Torres (spouse Christian), Joslyn Suzanne Crush (spouse Cameron), Julia Maxine Ott, and Dwight James Ott; great-grandchildren, Neva Marlow Torres and Asa Joel Torres; brothers, Tom Nolan(spouse Maria) and John Nolan(spouse Suzette); and sister, Janice Deorge.
Rick will be remembered for his courageous service to his country and local community, sense of humor, love for the water, and most importantly, for his deep love for his wife and family.
A Celebration of Rick’s Life will be held on November 22, 2025 at Faith Baptist Church-500 West Lee Rd.
Taylors, SC from 3:00 - 5:00 PM.
