George McKendree Haynes, Jr. “Mac”

George McKendree Haynes, Jr. “Mac” of Liberty, South Carolina and husband of the love of his life, Nancy Haynes, left this earth to be with his Heavenly father Wednesday, March 7th, 2018 at the age of 66 in Atlanta at Emory University Hospital.

Born in Spartanburg, SC he was the son of the late George M. Haynes, Sr. and Sue Cook Haynes. Mac was a Nuclear Engineer with Duke Power for 37 years and was instrumental in the success of the Oconee Nuclear power station. He had many admirers in his professional life and challenged his colleagues daily to realize and obtain their potential and to better themselves in the process. He was an avid book reader with over 4000 books read in his collection and private library. He loved to travel with his beloved wife to the beaches of Florida—always with a book in his hand. Mac was a kind, gentle soft spoken soul, and always saw the positive side to life and everything that entailed.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his son, George McKendree Haynes, III of Clemson, SC; daughter, Katherine Maudie Haynes of Six Mile, SC; sister, Susan Haynes Hayes of Isle of Palms, SC; and six grandchildren, Braxton, Panthea, Keegan, Jayden, Greyson, and Charlie Mack.

To the Haynes family: I am so sorry to hear about 'Mac Haynes'. He was a really nice person that I had the pleasure of getting to know years ago at ONS. He was a temporary supervisor over the Computer Group years ago. He was such a kind person. In fact, I remember when he met his beautiful wife Nancy and that was all it took. They seemed really happy and I am sorry that the family now faces this difficult time in their lives. May God stay in your heart and please ask him for comfort to see the family through this. I will always remember 'Mac' as a very kind man and a good husband and father. God Bless and Prayers.......

I will always remember what a sweet man. I always look forward to talking with him about his ornaments from Hallmark and Nancy's snoopy Charlie Brown things. Such a sweet couple and the love they had for each other showed on their faces. Praying God will comfort the family and especially Nancy- losing her best friend.
