

James “Beaver” Barrett, Jr., 85, of Easley, passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2017, at his home. Born in Pickens County on May 20, 1932, he was the son of the late James and Macie Gantt Barrett. He worked for Cannon Hospital in Pickens for many years as a medical technician and was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. Beaver had a giving soul, always willing to help those in need and supported many charitable organizations. He enjoyed gardening and an occasional game of tennis with his family. Beaver was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church, and was devoted to his church’s choir. He also dedicated time to participating in Gideons International, never wearing a suit jacket without his Gideons lapel pin. Surviving are his wife of 27 years, Mary Stansell Barrett; four daughters, Gina Constance (Jimmy), Christina “Chris” Harper (Jimmy), Judy Graham, and Regina Downs; a sister, Jeanette Underwood; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Beaver was also predeceased by one son, Grady Barrett and one brother, Jack Barrett. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 18, 2017, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at Rock Springs Baptist Church, with funeral services to follow at 3:00 p.m. with Dr. David Gallamore officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens. The family will be at their respective homes. Memorials may be made to the Gideons International, 1000 S.
