James was born in Gaffney, South Carolina, on September 5, 1957, to the late Marshall and Juanita Varner.
He enjoyed watching old western movies, wood working and being out on the lake fishing. James was a member of East Pickens Baptist Church.
James is survived by his loving wife Kimberly Varner; one son: Kristopher Varner; one brother: Wayne Varner; three brother in laws: Bill Cody (Wanda), Ken Hall (Karla), Kyle Porter (Crystal); and one sister in law: Lorraine Thompson.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by one brother, William Algie Varner.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, on Friday August 1, 2025, in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends following the service.
Burial will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
